How to Get Certified
Some people have been wondering about certifying as a CNA. Thanks to Janette, we have the answer. I just typed it up in a cool bulleted step-by-step format.
¨ Go to www.utahcna.com
¨ Click on UNAR Testing Forms
¨ Click on Candidate Application (mail-in). Print it and fill it out. You may need to have Vikki or Teresa sign the bottom portion to verify that you completed the Fundamentals course.
¨ Bring completed application and a check for $70 made out to UNAR to the Registrar’s Office and request a copy of your official transcript ($4). If you bring everything, they will mail it off together for you. If they want you to provide the envelope, don’t freak out; they just finished the post office across from the Wellness Center. It looks pretty nice.
¨ Wait for your voucher to arrive from the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry, then call and make an appointment with the Southwest Applied Technology College, (435) 586-2899, 510 West 800 South behind Cedar High. CNA testing usually occurs Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
¨ When you go to test:
o Bring voucher
o Bring picture ID
o Wear scrubs
o Wear a watch
o Wear appropriate shoes
o Tie your hair back
o Bring a black ink pen
o Bring a patient (an actual person)
o No dangly jewelry
¨ You will take a written test and a skills test.
o The written test 100 MC questions, and is NOT in N-CLEX format. You need 75% to pass.
o The skills test is any 5 of the 28 skills listed in the Candidate Handbook, essential/critical elements are bolded. The Handbook also has a Practice Written Exam. Very handy. Couldn’t find answers to the online practice exam.
Good luck! Getting certified could be good practice for the ATI Fundamentals test we have to take at the beginning of next semester.
Hope everyone is having a blast. I gave myself May to relax, now it's time to hit the books! Any questions, comments, suggestions, blatant criticism, let me know! Thanks-
Jessica
