Patho sheets

Leave a comment saying which pathophysiology you have completed for Lana, so we don't have to repeat the paperwork for a disease which has been done already. Thanks!

Another Social...

So, they planned another nursing student social... I guess we go to both. The other one is on Sept 12 at 5 pm at Canyon Park East. Good times, they have a volleyball court on that side if I remember correctly. Check the link:

See you there!

Endocrine Review

Alright folks, pharm is starting to sound pretty scary; and as it gets closer I'm realizing how much I forgot in physiology. Beta-blockers? What's a beta receptor do? :) So anyways, I have asked Rachel Smetanka to do an endocrine review class before school starts so we are better prepared. (Build up the foundation before the house). So!

Thur, Aug 21, 6:30 pm, SC 125
autonomic nerve receptors, neurotransmitters,
drug targets, hormones
Pizza and refreshments served

Because Smetanka is taking time out of her Fall prep to do this for us, I think we should take the time to be there and reap the benefits of an endocrine refresher course! See you there!

Review #3

Betsy hasn't returned my calls or emails, so we're chillin at Sam's tomorrow night. Review Wednesday, Aug 13, at 630 pm. Maybe we can try again a little later, so we'll just study the remaining topics on the list. Forget skills, we'll hit those later. Watch Mosby's. So, I thought Sam was completely hilarious when giving directions, so I will quote directly:

"Directions to my casa are...If heading North on Main St. you are coming to the end of it just before you get on the freeway you turn right by the big bad days inn...(the name of the st. escapes me as of now....) but turn right there...follow that st. down for just a scosh and take another right on Cedar Knolls S. (hey I knew that one!! :) and my house is the first house on the right. 1043 Cedar Knolls S.......So from main you are gonna go right, right, right...and you're at my house...Easy enuf???"

So, see you guys tomorrow night! Sorry for the late notice, hope to see you there!

School's comin!!

The summer clock is winding down, so it's time for updates and school-type announcements. First of all, textbooks are confusing! Turns out the Fall List under Current Student Resources is not-so-current. Mike wants the 6th edition for the Pharm book. So, here are actual ISBN's to help if you're online shopping:

Pharm: 1416025529
Med-Surg (2 vol set): 0781766958
Med-Surg Study Guide: 0781765439
Mental Health: 1416000887 *make sure it's the book, this isbn is the same for the paperback study guide, too!
Research: 0803611129

Also, I've been talking to people about different scholarship opportunities and such, and I REALLY wish I had looked these up earlier, because a lot of the deadlines have passed over the summer :( But, you could rake in the dough for Level 4! Check these out:

The Nursing Scholarship Program
http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/
This scholarship is full tuition, fees, AND a stipend if you promise to work 2 years in a facility where nurses are in need (which basically means anywhere). I'm so mad the deadline passed June 6!!!

Nursing Scholarships

NSNA Scholarship Resources
http://www.nsna.org/foundation/resources/

FNSNA Undergrad Scholarship
http://www.nsna.org/foundation/scholarships/undergrad.asp
This scholarship is not due until Jan 2009! Apply!

Utah gives out Nursing Scholarships as a reimbursement around October or so. I contacted the office and I am getting the information shipped to me because their website is currently down.

Also, remember to apply for AmeriCorps right after Vikki does the Orientation in the first few weeks of school. That's an extra $700 just for doing clinicals and a couple service projects.

Enjoy the rest of your summer! Remember to check back and see when/where the next study group is going to be. So far they have been a great success, and it feels good to review. See you soon!
